Biker dies, wife injured after truck driver rams into them at Antop Hill
Mumbai: A 48-year-old man was killed and his wife seriously injured in a road accident at Antop Hill on Friday afternoon after a speeding truck allegedly hit their two-wheeler. Police said the rear wheel of the truck ran over man's head, leading to his death on the spot while his wife also fell and suffered a serious injury to her right hand. Police have booked the truck driver.The deceased identified as Rajesh Shinde (48), a resident of Jai Shankar Yagnik Road near GTB Railway Station. His wife, Shraddha Shinde (46), who was riding pillion, sustained a fracture in her right hand.The incident occurred around 12 noon on May 1 near Kokri Agar, Antop Hill. The couple was travelling on an Activa scooter, with Rajesh Shinde riding the vehicle and wearing a helmet. The truck driven at high speed by its driver Sadashiv Tukaram Erande (55), suddenly swerved towards their vehicle without any signal. This caused the rider to lose control, following which the scooter skidded and both fell onto the road.Police said the rear wheel of the truck ran over Rajesh Shinde's head, leading to his death on the spot. Shraddha Shinde also fell and suffered a serious injury to her right hand.Both victims were rushed to Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (Sion Hospital), where doctors declared Rajesh Shinde dead on arrival, while his wife is undergoing treatment.A case has been registered against the truck driver for rash and negligent driving causing death and grievous injury. Further investigation is underway.
